India’s industrial output surged to a twenty-three-month high of 7.3% in June, driven by robust performance across manufacturing and electricity sectors alongside favourable base effects. Official data shows manufacturing output expanded by 7.8%, contributing significantly to the overall uptick with major gains in electrical equipment, motor vehicles and textiles. The electricity and gas supply segment rose to a twenty-five-month high of 10.6%, spurred by elevated temperatures and higher power demand nationwide. Meanwhile, capital goods expanded by 14.2%, and primary goods touched a nine-month high, reflecting sustained investment momentum and broadbased industrial recovery. Despite these strong production gains, economists urge caution regarding the near-term outlook, citing volatile global geopolitical conditions, high input costs and uneven monsoon distribution as potential headwinds for sustained long-term expansion, as per a report.
